Rabbit Zombie Melee Weapon - Ri.S.K.
So I ended up using this illustration as an entry for a...Save the Date(!) contest at Minted.com, and thus had finished this (kinda) a while ago. Still, as per usual it's a WIP, but yeah.
I decided to go for having it be a melee weapon made up of a zombie bunny, as opposed to a melee weapon used by a zombie bunny. enjoy.
And yes, midnight carriage is still going, but with finals and starting up a new business, it's going very, very slowly.

Underground Kraken Insect and Haunting Shark Fisherman
A double-late, double-post. The first is my try at the Underground Kraken Insect. I figured although krakens are originally based on giant squid, I figured that this creature is more of an insect that lives underground, but explodes out of the sand to capture prey. I referenced it as a kraken as the sand pirates that sail the sands find that if they come across this giant beast, they are about as good as dead as if they were on the ocean and came across a real kraken. The alternative title for this is "Boy, that ship is f***ed."
I was torn between illustrating a ghost fisherman with a giant shark on his fishingline, but decided to go the lamer way of doing a ghost fisherman who IS a shark. Eh. Enough said on this one.
Could definitely a)spend more time on these, and b)work on mood lighting. Sigh. But at least I'm getting faster. Now I just need to either spend more time, or suddenly become drastically better. Guess more time it is.

Underground Kraken Insect and Haunting Shark Fisherman
So our next two topics are:
Underground Kraken Insect - due 9/08
&
Haunting Shark Fisherman - due 9/22.
We decided to try and go every two weeks now that school has started for us. Wish us luck in keeping to it!

Eater of the Dead's Secret Lair - Ri.S.K.
A speed paint, this was my first idea for the prompt. I figured the Eater of the Dead would be hanging out someplace remote to finish off his corpse dinner, and what else is creepier than the swamp?
Midway through the week, I decided to change my approach and was going to do a painting of the white house...get it? Bush is sort of an eater of the dead, as he directly profits from the deaths occurring in Iraq as well as in this country due to poverty, disease, natural disasters, etc. His system doesn't work for a lot of people, and I figured I'd do a political piece since I haven't done one in a while.
However, since I was too lazy to look up reference photos for the white house, and I already did some research for the swamp, here I am posting the swamp.
Eater of the Dead's Secret Lair
Our topic that was supposed to be due last Saturday (8/31) should be up soon.

Reinvented Mute Heroes - Ri.S.K.
I admit, this is far from polished, but given the rehearsal schedule this week (Tues-Sat, 5pm-11:30pm if you include travel time), this is all I could get out.
I know it's only one hero as opposed to "heroes," but alas, tough. I reinvented the Bat as a living ragdoll of sorts that unfortunately has his mouth sewed shut. Fun times.

Peeling Pirate Supervillian
So this, like all my work up here, is a WIP, but here is my peeling pirate supervillian. He's a gross pirate lord whose face is decomposing. It's pretty clear I drew my inspiration from Two Face and Pirates of the Caribbean, but yeah. It's also my first illustration done completely in Photoshop. Usually I scan something in that I've done in pencil or ink as a starting point, but yeah, this one was pure digital energy, baby. ~4.5-6 hours...I forgot when I started it.
I just realized that one of the major issues is that the dark side of his face needs to be a whole lot darker. Erg. Guess I'll have to spend more time on him.

Flying Toxic Insect- Eve
So I didn't get to finish coloring this one, but I wanted to stick to the deadline and post what I have. I had in mind "toxic, destruction, oil, wasteland." I wanted to do two insects, a goop monster (first thumbnail) and a mechanical "insect" born of "toxicity." I was also inspired by Reagan Lodge's "The Dragon," thus the color scheme. I'd like to come back to these two ideas at some point.

"Week" 4 & 5 - Peeling Pirate Supervillian and Reinvented Mute Heroes
The Peeling Pirate Supervillian is due Friday, August 15th.
The Reinvented Mute Heroes piece is due Friday, August 22nd.
We pulled two great topics, so we figured: why not do both?

Spikey Hybrid Dreams/Flying Toxic Insect
Ug, after like a bajillion months, here they are.
The flying toxic insect I imagine to be mutated by living in some sort of radioactive sewage, warping it's stinger into some bloated, fleshy blob. It's also caused the limp appendage and the acute size difference of it's legs/pincers.
The spikey hybrid dream is a porcupine/human hybrid dreaming of a more aristocratic lifestyle (at least compared to his vagabond life he leads now).

"Spiky Hybrid Dreams" - Eve
In “Dreams,” I wanted to juxtapose the monstrous with the beautiful. I knew I wanted some kind of steam punk snail. This project took a long time to finish (several months late) because I wanted it in color and I wanted to integrate digital and traditional media, but I had no experience in digital painting whatsoever. After learning the main concepts from Rick, I learned that it just takes practice. Lots of it. Enjoy.
BTW, our due date for “Toxic Flying Insect” is this Friday 8/8. And starting this Friday we are resurrecting our site, hopefully we’ll get in one piece a week for August, before school starts again in September. Thanks for reading.

Ri.S.K. - Desert Superhero
Only like a week late (I actually had a line drawing of this done two days after I got the prompt but the scanner screwed it up), but here's my interpretation of "desert superhero in a limited palatte."
This guy runs around the desert with an umbrella and a pack full of water to save stranded people from dehydration. He also has sodium tablets to help absorption of water and other nifty things in his little belts and pockets.
So yeah. Enjoy the speed paint (and don't ask me about why the desert is blue...it's just a mirage).
